Student's Teardrop
The Student's Teardrop is similar to the Standard Teardrop, without carving.
This teardrop was created to allow beginners to get introduced to dulcimer music with the highest possible playability and tonal quality, at the least possible cost. All the qualities of the Standard Teardrop have been conserved, while reducing the labor needed to a bare minimum by eliminating carvings at the tail and peghead, and fiddle edges.
Please understand that if you have a preference in figure or other matters regarding the materials, it will be taken into account. But the voice and the luthier's aesthetics will govern the final choice of all materials.
For this reason, the Student's Teardrop is often the first instrument built by a beginning student in my classes on dulcimer building.
