The Advanced Class is a place to realize one's high aspirations as a music instrument builder.

The goal of this class is to prepare the student to build dulcimers at the highest level of accomplishment. In acknowledgement and support of these efforts, limited permission to copy and use is given for all Bear Meadow forms, moulds, templates and jigs, to students who complete the course with distinction.

Students will build on skills acquired in the Introduction and Intermediate classes. Each student will build a Concert Grand or Baby Grand Appalachian dulcimer. In the Advanced Class, advanced techniques are taught:

  • Choosing and shaping tonewoods for specific tonal qualities.
  • The contribution of materials, design elements and structures to voice
  • Advanced woodworking techniques
  • Ornamentation techniques

The Master Class is a demanding course of study, and should be considered by those who have completed the Bear Meadow Introduction and Intermediate classes, or those with a firmly established background in lutherie.
